Osteopathy

Osteopathy works on the idea that our body is a structure formed by many elements joined by a tissue that envelops the entire organism like a network.

Under this approach, osteopaths believe that any imbalance in a specific point of our organism can cause alterations or problems in the functioning of other points.

Maintaining harmony in the structure and eliminating or reducing mechanical problems is the basis of physical well-being.

With Osteopathy, a multitude of conditions and ailments can be treated, including:

Main indications

  • Tinnitus
  • Bruxism (Teeth grinding)
  • Headaches
  • Tension headache or numbness
  • Jaw joint pain (TMJ)
  • Herniated and bulging discs
  • Recurrent low back pain
  • Nerve impingement causing cramp-like pain
  • Sinusitis
  • Ringing in the ears
  • feeling of blockage

STRUCTURAL OSTEOPATHY

Structural osteopathy is a therapeutic discipline consisting of the diagnosis and effective treatment of musculoskeletal problems.

It is based on the principle that in osteopathy everything is established through hyper- and hypomobility—that is, areas that move and areas that do not. Symptoms, such as neck pain, appear in the mobile areas. Meanwhile, the areas that do not move are often those that do not cause symptoms and constitute the root of the patient's problem.

Structural Osteopathy Techniques

Thrusts (audible cracks) are one of the techniques I use as an osteopath, following a detailed study of the patient to detect if the cause of the ailment is structural—for instance, a vertebra or joint with decreased mobility. If this technique is contraindicated or the patient prefers not to have it, I use other techniques such as:

  • Muscular and fascial stretching
  • Pumping techniques for ligaments and joint capsules
  • Muscle energy techniques
  • Functional techniques
  • Muscular trigger point inhibition techniques

Structural osteopathy is a very effective therapy for addressing musculoskeletal dysfunctions. it helps treat many conditions such as low back pain, sciatica, muscle contractures, vertigo, dizziness, tension headaches, and much more.

VISCERAL OSTEOPATHY

Visceral osteopathy provides the professional with a global approach to health, disease, and the treatment of musculoskeletal pathologies using a wide range of highly effective techniques, maneuvers, and approaches.

The basis of visceral osteopathy is movement. Each visceral structure has the quality of moving or, conversely, having its mobility reduced, which entails a disturbance in the patient's physiological balance and an alteration in their health status.

Over time, I have discovered that half of the reasons patients come to my clinic are of visceral origin. To detect if a problem originates in the visceral package, certain details must be explored during the interview: How are their digestions? How often do they go to the bathroom? Have any surgeries or hemodynamic alterations been detected in their blood tests? This is what provides clues about the cause of the patient's ailments, often revealing that it is not the typical muscle pain or tendonitis they were initially diagnosed with.

CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY

Cranial Osteopathy involves very subtle techniques that aim to restore vascular, nervous, and Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) circulation, as well as recover the mobility of the bones, cranial membranes, and other related structures. The mobility of the different joints between the skull bones not only allows passage through the birth canal but also acts throughout life as expansion joints in bridges and buildings to counteract movements.

Inside the skull, we have the cerebrospinal fluid, which is transmitted along almost the entire spinal canal, as well as various blood and lymphatic vessels that ensure the pressure inside the skull is correct. Following the osteopathic principle of the "Law of the Artery," which tells us to ensure that blood and various fluids circulate without obstacles, it is essential to know the connective pathways of different nervous and vascular tissues, as they ensure cranial functions and, of course, control all other bodily functions.

Benefits of Cranial Osteopathy

During cranial osteopathy sessions, I first assess the mobility restrictions of the skull bones and then apply a series of techniques to restore normality. This achieves correct functioning of the central and peripheral nervous systems, resulting in improved circulation, nerve impulse transmission, metabolism, muscle tone normalization, etc.

Cranial osteopathy is indicated for numerous conditions:

  • Pediatric alterations
  • Visual alterations
  • Tension headaches
  • Stress
  • Migraines
  • Spinal problems
  • Sleep disorders
  • Vertigo
